Donkey Kong Bananza on Switch 2: Just a Disney Copy?

The Nintendo Direct for Donkey Kong Bananza was watched by millions of players. During its broadcast, some fans were struck by the resemblance between the heroes and two Disney characters!

The next flagship game for the Switch 2 recently made headlines again at Nintendo’s latest conference, as it was dedicated to it. In fact, players discovered gameplay footage of the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza, and we were pretty convinced. Some people in the editorial office believe that “this is the game that can make me buy the console.” But during the game’s presentation, we learned that the Big N gorilla will be accompanied by Pauline, the heroine of the first Donkey Kong and Super Mario Odyssey. For fans, these images were striking! They couldn’t help but notice the resemblance to Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz from the film Wreck-It Ralph.

Who is inspired by whom?

For those who missed it: yes, the characters in this 2012 Disney film are inspired by the very first Donkey Kong arcade game. The reference is striking, but we prefer to remind you. That being said, Ralph “the bad guy” is therefore a substitute for Donkey Kong, and he must destroy the construction site of Felix the Repairman, who takes over the role of Mario in the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game. But what about Pauline? Well, when you know the story of the feature film Wreck-It Ralph, you can only compare her to the young Vanellope Von Schweetz. The little girl befriends “the bad guy” due to their shared interests, and more than ten years later, Donkey Kong Bananza offers a similar idea. We’ve come full circle.

New relationship for new adventures

The duo in the upcoming Switch 2 game follows roughly the same narrative pattern as the Disney film. In Donkey Kong Bananza, the gorilla isn’t presented as an antagonist – quite the opposite but he was in the very first game from 1981. As for Pauline, she no longer appears as a damsel in distress but rather as a heroine. This is a way for Nintendo to evolve the past relationship between the two characters since their last appearances together. Donkey Kong Bananza will be available on July 17th, exclusively on Switch 2.
