Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar Fishing Guide

If you’ve just started fishing in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know—from getting your first fishing rod to upgrading it, unlocking reel power, and finding every type of fish.

Getting Your First Fishing Rod

Fishing in Grand Bazaar is easy to pick up, though it works a little differently compared to the DS original.

  • On Spring 7, Wilbur will give you a basic fishing rod, which lets you start catching smaller fish.
  • You can fish in most bodies of water. Just equip your rod from the tool menu and press the use button (X/Y on controller).
  • Unlike some farming sims, you don’t have to look for shadows or special ripples—after a few seconds, a fish will bite.

Catching Fish Step by Step

  1. When a fish bites, press the use button again to hook it.
  2. Follow the directional prompts that appear while reeling it in.
  3. Each time you succeed, you’ll reduce the fish’s stamina (shown as blue fish icons).
  4. Land the fish before the green line strength bar runs out—if it empties, the fish escapes.

Upgrading Your Fishing Rod

Bigger and rarer fish require stronger rods. To upgrade, you’ll need to use the Windmills, which unlock as you progress.

  • Red Windmill (available after Isaac’s request on Spring 6): Copper, Silver upgrades
  • Blue Windmill (requires higher bazaar rank): Gold upgrades
  • Yellow Windmill (requires higher bazaar rank): Oricalchum upgrades

Each tier lets you tackle stronger fish, so keep upgrading if you want to reel in the real prizes.

Reel Power and Fish Bait

On Saturdays, check out Felix’s stall at the bazaar. Among other techniques, he sells Reel Power, which is a must-have for serious fishing.

  • Reel Power activates randomly while you’re reeling in.
  • When it triggers, a prompt appears—hit the use button at the right moment.
  • Doing so will drain multiple blue icons from the fish at once, making it much easier to land larger, tougher catches.

Early on, Reel Power is often the only way you can land bigger fish before your line breaks. Definitely worth picking up if you plan to fish regularly.

Fish Quality and Harvest Sprite Bonus

Fish quality isn’t based on luck or your rod—it’s tied to your relationship with the Harvest Sprite Finley.

  • The more you befriend Finley, the higher quality fish you’ll pull in.
  • Always give Finley spare fish, especially the ones marked as that week’s bonus.

This will help you climb toward 3★ and 4★ catches much faster.
