Whether you’re here to charm every eligible heart in town or just want to start a cozy family life with your favorite character, this guide has you covered. From bonding basics to popping the big question – let’s dive into the warm, fuzzy world of relationships!

Getting to Know You – Bonding Basics

In Guardians of Azuma, relationships aren’t just for flavor – they’re a meaningful part of your journey. Every interaction builds toward something more, whether it’s friendship, romance, or even parenthood.

There are two relationship stats you’ll want to watch:

  • Bond Level: Think of this as your overall connection with any character – friends, neighbors, or potential party members.
  • Intimacy: This one’s strictly for love interests. It tracks your romantic progress.

How to Raise Bond Levels

Boosting Bond Levels is pretty easy, and there’s no rush – Guardians of Azuma lets you take your time. Here’s how you can grow closer to people:

  • Say hello every day (never underestimate a good chat)
  • Use the Dance of Bonds skill
  • Spend time with them – hanging out counts, and yes, gifting still helps
  • Cook together (even if they just hang out and watch)
  • Help them with personal quests
  • Join them in seasonal or story events

Best part? Bond Levels never decrease in this game. Mess up a gift or skip a few days? No worries—your progress is safe.

At Bond Level 10, characters become stronger in battle, open up new dialogue, and unlock sweet new social activities—like eating meals together.

So… Are We More Than Friends?

Let’s talk love. Romance in Guardians of Azuma is gradual and meaningful. You’ll see it represented by:

  • 4 Blue Hearts — friendship milestones
  • 4 Red Hearts — romantic encounters
  • One final symbol — a sign you’re ready for marriage

These hearts fill up as you complete events with your chosen love interest. It’s a slow burn, but totally worth it.

Building Friendship (Blue Heart Phase)

Starting at Bond Level 3, you can begin unlocking special friendship quests for characters you can eventually date.

You’ll get a series of quests like “Getting to Know [Name] 1–4.” These are simple, often sweet glimpses into their backstory and personality. Just keep your Bond Level rising and progress through the main story, and these events will trigger.

When you’ve finished the fourth quest? You’re officially ready to take things to the next level: dating.

Let’s Go on a Date!

Now we’re talking. Once your Bond Level hits 7, and all friendship events are complete, a new dialogue option pops up: “I love you!”

Say the words, and your crush will set up a meeting for the next day. When you show up, you’ll get a final moment to confirm – if you’re sure, the relationship begins.

What changes when you’re dating?

  • New social skills show up in your skill tree (like hand-holding or hugs)
  • You’ll get access to dating events (basically your version of romantic quests)
  • You can keep leveling up your bond even more

Remember: Dating events don’t follow traditional quest markers. Your partner will just let you know where to be and when. If you miss a date, no big deal – you’ll just need to wait a bit to try again.

Can I Date Multiple People?

Yes! In true Rune Factory fashion, you’re free to test the waters with more than one person.

  • You can even confess to multiple people in one in-game day
  • Responses arrive on different days
  • You’re not locked into anything until you say “yes” at the Fateweaver Shrine

Just be aware – eventually, you do have to pick one. But until then, enjoy the journey and get to know everyone.

Time to Say “I Do”

Once you’re at Bond Level 10 and have completed all of a character’s dating events, Woolby (aka your wingman) shows up to talk about the Fateweaver Shrine – your wedding destination.

Here’s What You’ll Need to Propose:

  1. Divine Spirits – a craftable item Woolby helps you unlock
  2. Red Plum Tree Branch – comes from a special tree you grow
What You’ll Need to Propose

How to Get These:

  • Woolby gives you a Red Plum Tree Seed. Plant it behind any shrine and wait a few days. Boom, branches.
  • Craft Divine Spirits using:
    • Rice (from paddies)
    • Wisteria (a growable tree)

Once both are ready, talk to your partner and propose. Head to the Fateweaver Shrine and seal the deal.

Married Life Perks

After your big day:

  • Your spouse moves in with you at the Spring Dragon Shrine
  • Other love interests lose their red hearts, but you keep the Bond Levels
  • Talk to your spouse daily for a free homemade meal

Rewoven Fates – Want to Marry Someone Else?

Changed your mind later? The game’s got you covered with a super cool system called Rewoven Fates.

Rewoven Fates - Want to Marry Someone Else
  • Visit the glowing orb near the Fateweaver Shrine
  • You’ll shift to a timeline where you’re single again
  • Your ex’s Intimacy resets to friendship levels
  • You can pursue anyone else – even someone you’ve already married before
  • Just remember: you have to remarry before rewinding again

This system is perfect if you want to experience every romance, unlock achievements, or just try different family setups.

Starting a Family

Eventually, your spouse will bring up the idea of having a child – this happens no matter your protagonist’s gender.

How It Works:

  • Say yes, and you’ll be sent to the Fateweaver Shrine again
  • In same-sex marriages, you get a magic turnip to plant
  • A few days later, return to choose your child’s appearance and personality
  • Your child reflects traits from both parents – so don’t be surprised if they inherit someone’s ears or tail
Starting a Family

After the Baby Comes…

  • A 5-year timeskip happens
  • Your child:
    • Lives with you
    • Can join your party
    • Has their own Bond Level
  • You’ll unlock new bosses and dungeons
  • Want a second child? Wait a bit, and you can start the process again – triggering another timeskip

Wrap

Whether you’re here for love, family, or just fun character moments, Guardians of Azuma offers a rich relationship system worth exploring. Take your time, follow your heart, and enjoy every moment – whether you’re cooking together, battling side-by-side, or raising kids after a five-year jump.
