DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO - All of Son Gohan's "What If" Episodes and How to Unlock Them

Son Gohan is one of the strongest fighters in Dragon Ball, but he often stays on the sidelines. In Sparking Zero, you can change his story—and we’ll show you how.

Gohan’s potential is unmatched, and here’s how you can unlock alternative story paths for him in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO. We’ll cover each chapter in order, with spoilers hidden in case you want to avoid them. But one thing is certain: there’s at least one major surprise waiting for you!

Chapter 3: Unleashed Rage

There are no alternate paths for Gohan in Chapters 1 and 2. The first branching point happens in Chapter 3, “Unleashed Rage.” If you defeat Perfect Cell quickly enough, you’ll unlock a new cutscene and an alternate ending.

What if Gohan had defeated Cell prematurely?

Spoiler Alert:
In this version, Gohan kills Cell early, and neither Trunks nor Goku dies in the story.

This task isn’t easy—focus on combos and keep an eye on Cell’s Ki meter. His Kamehameha charges fast and deals heavy damage, so block it if you can’t dodge in time.

Chapter 4: Dabra

The next chance to change Gohan’s story appears in Chapter 4, “Dabra.” Normally, Gohan fails to defeat Dabra in time. But if you beat him quickly, a new ending is unlocked.

Spoiler Alert:
In this version, Gohan defeats Dabra, and the team kills Babidi, preventing Majin Buu’s revival.

You’ll need to act fast, so give it your all! Use ultimate attacks, but be cautious—debris on the battlefield can block your super moves.

Hunger for Power

During the Buu saga, another alternate path opens in “Hunger for Power.” Gohan must defeat Super Buu after he absorbs several Z Fighters.

In the standard story, you win without any time constraints. But if you beat Buu swiftly, you unlock a new ending.

Spoiler Alert:
With renewed strength, Gohan avoids being absorbed and finishes Buu with a single attack. Earth is saved, and peace returns.

Chapter 5: Defend the Earth Against the Frieza Army

A major divergence occurs in the “Frieza Revival Saga.” In the chapter “Defend the Earth Against the Frieza Army,” an untrained Gohan faces Frieza and his soldiers.

Can Son-Gohan reach his potential before it's too late?

First, you must defeat one of Frieza’s men, followed by Frieza himself. Normally, Frieza’s power is overwhelming. But if you defeat both enemies quickly, you unlock the Sparking Episode called “The Strongest Warrior.”

This episode spans nine sections and includes alternate scenarios, featuring a mysterious villain from the future.

Spoiler Alert:
In this alternate story, after defeating Frieza, the Goku Black arc unfolds with a twist: it’s Gohan’s body, not Goku’s, that gets stolen, creating Gohan Black, a brand-new character.

Chapter 7: Amazing Team

The final alternate path occurs during the Universe Survival Arc in the chapter “Amazing Team.” Gohan fights Dyspo, a powerful and fast opponent.

If you defeat Dyspo quickly, you unlock an extra stage and a bonus fight.

Spoiler Alert:
Instead of sacrificing himself to eliminate Dyspo, Gohan defeats him outright. The battle continues against Toppo, who has become a God of Destruction. Instead of a final showdown with Jiren, Universe 7 wins by having more fighters left when time runs out.

With these alternate storylines, you can unlock new endings and experience a different side of Gohan’s journey in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO.
