How Ultra Instinct Works
In Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, characters aren’t perfectly balanced. Some fighters are much stronger, like two of the 17 versions of Son Goku—Ultra Instinct Sign and Ultra Instinct—while others, like Mr. Satan, struggle to compete at high levels.
Both Son Goku’s Ultra Instinct forms and the angel Whis share a unique defense mechanism: automatic dodging. But to make it work properly, you need to master a surprising technique.
Just Do Nothing
You might notice that sometimes, Son Goku or Whis will dodge attacks automatically, almost as if by magic. Here’s the trick: you need to do absolutely nothing to activate this skill.
Whenever you don’t press any buttons, the Ultra Instinct defense will activate, making you nearly untouchable. But there are a few important limitations:
- Strong attacks and super attacks won’t be dodged.
- Each dodge costs Son Goku some Ki, but Whis can dodge freely without any cost.
While it might feel unnatural in a fast-paced game to just stop pressing buttons, it’s a brilliant mechanic that captures the essence of Ultra Instinct: Goku’s body reacts instinctively to danger without conscious thought.
Beware of the Game Settings
Even if you know how Ultra Instinct works, a game setting could block this feature. If you’re playing with the default settings, combat assists might be turned on, which disables automatic dodging.
Here’s how to make sure Ultra Instinct works:
- Go to Options > Accessibility settings.
- Turn off Combat Assist and Block Assist.
When these settings are on, the game tries to help you block attacks, which interferes with Ultra Instinct’s mechanics—since Goku and Whis don’t need to block at all!
Now you’re ready to master Ultra Instinct in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Adjust the settings, stop pressing buttons, and let your instincts do the rest!
