Dragon Age’s iconic trio is back: Warrior, Rogue, and Mage. In The Veilguard, you’ll once again choose from these archetypes, but you can further customize your playstyle with three subclasses per class.
Here’s a breakdown of each class, their strengths, and what each subclass offers.

Classes in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
How do classes work?
You select your class when creating your character, and this choice is permanent. It determines your abilities, skill tree, and the equipment you can use. Your class may also influence some dialogue options. All races can play any class except Dwarves, who cannot be Mages.
Subclasses are chosen later in the game via the skill tree, though the level requirement is still unknown.
Rogues
The fastest fighters, Rogues are highly mobile and use light weapons and armor. They can excel in close combat or from a distance with a bow.
Rogue Subclasses:
- Duelist: Dual-wielding blades for close combat.
- Saboteur: Expert in setting traps and throwing explosives.
- Veil Ranger: Archers with a touch of magic, perfect for ranged combat specialists.
Mages
Mages wield powerful magic, though they must always be wary of demonic possession. In The Veilguard, blood magic is forbidden, but you still have a wide array of magical abilities to choose from.
Mage Subclasses:
- Evoker: Controls elemental magic—fire, lightning, and ice.
- Spellblade: A defensive mage who combines magic with swordplay.
- Deathcaller: A necromancer-like subclass that summons spirit creatures.
Warriors
Warriors are built for close combat, able to take a lot of damage while dealing out punishment. They use heavy armor and weapons like swords, axes, or hammers, and can specialize in either two-handed weapons or sword-and-shield combinations.
Warrior Subclasses:
- Reapers: Dark warriors who drain life energy from enemies and channel dark magic.
- Champions: Battlefield tacticians who protect allies and control enemies, fighting with sword and shield.
- Slayer: A brawler who wields two-handed weapons and thrives on charging into the thick of battle.
This refined overview captures each class’s key features and their subclasses, offering clear insight into which might suit your playstyle.
